Multiple Domain Problems

This is a special page for communication about problems with wiki systems that use multiple domains within one wiki. A special feature that is developed for the OurCulture community.

Questions for Helmut

Helmut, perhaps this is multiple domain related, I don't know. I have set http://www.ourculture.info/wiki.cgi?Context so that we have NoCookieLinksChangeRangeAllowed=-100;0 and yet we're getting spam in our subwikis. Do they each need a similar command? Thank you, AndriusKulikauskas December 1, 2006 14:46 CET

Helmut, do you know what's happened? The following page is now missing: http://www.myfoodstory.org/wiki.cgi?MyFoodStory it is available at: http://www.ourculture.info/wiki.cgi?FindBetterWays/MyFoodStory How do I have that page show where it should? AndriusKulikauskas November 22, 2006 10:52 CET

Andrius, in the current situation, the first link goes to http://www.ourculture.info/wiki.cgi?FindBetterWays/MyFoodStory/MyFoodStory, which is inside the SubWiki / domain. This is not unlogical given that myfoodstory.org is meant to be a shorthand for FindBetterWays/MyFoodStory/. Apart from that this is also a subject to AutomaticalLinking and depends on the FrontPage definition. Typically you would pass only the link http://www.myfoodstory.org/wiki.cgi to get to the homepage. The next beta will let you define that in a better way. It would probably be good to avoid pairs of parent and child pages that have the same LeafName.

Thank you for your patience. Cookie handling had to be completely rewritten, a new "domaingate" feature has been added,so that users keep their cookies when crossing domain boundaries. This added a few days of programming and testing, current ETA for the beta is next Tuesday. -- HelmutLeitner

Helmut, Thank you, now I understand, we need to redo our Apache server so that it points correctly. I should point to http://www.myfoodstory.org/wiki.cgi for example, from the Apache server, yes? Please let me know when the Beta is complete! I am looking forward to it! AndriusKulikauskas December 1, 2006 14:46 CET

Question for Helmut - Are you able to log in to our server now? Thank you for your help. AndriusKulikauskas November 13, 2006 13:59 CET

Andrius, yes, I can log in, do update and testing. There are still some minor permission problems but nothing that would seriously hinder me. Now I've also more time, to really think things through. It would be nice to skype about some issues. -- HelmutLeitner November 13, 2006 14:59 CET

Beta - Collision Detection occurs even when turned off

Hi Helmut, AlgisCibulskis installed the latest version of the ProWikiBeta (how could we double check this?) I set CollisionDetection=0 for all of OurCulture but it still happens. I then did it also for the relevant subwiki and it still happens. Any thoughts? AndriusKulikauskas October 30, 2006 11:28 CET

I've added "NoCookieBlocking=0" which turns off spam defense (which ends in a collision display). Does the problem still occur? -- HelmutLeitner October 30, 2006 15:03 CET

Beta - WelcomeVisitor page leads to wrong page

Helmut, when I try to edit http://www.myfoodstory.org I get the following sequence:

Maybe this is OK, but can we stay in the same context, same url domain, etc.? I suppose that the general principle would be that if you are leaving the context for any reason you should have a page giving you the option to stay within the context or go to a different context. For example, when I tried to create a BusinessModels page in http://www.myfoodstory.org it links instead to an existing page elsewhere in the wiki. I would prefer that instead it would link to a page within the existing context that gave me the multilinks outside the context or the choice to create a new page with that name within the context. Perhaps that would be the best way to go for me - that whenever it's not clear you get a page within the existing context that helps you stay within that context or lets you travel further outside of it. That would make things much more intuitive for me. I suppose that's my key issue, having "strong boundaries" for the context so that you know when you are in it and when you are leaving it. Beta - EmptyPath brings to RootPage

Hi Helmut, the urls http://www.myfoodstory.org/wiki.cgi? and http://www.myfoodstory.org lead to different pages. I think I would intuitively expect them to both go to http://www.myfoodstory.org . AndriusKulikauskas October 28, 2006 15:02 CET

Andrius, this is unclear to me, because "go to http://www.myfoodstory.org" does not refer to a page. Usually http://www.myfoodstory.org can only lead to a wiki page if there is a Redirect-statement in the Apache configuration. -- HelmutLeitner October 30, 2006 15:11 CET

Beta - Trouble creating pages by way of URL

Helmut, I tried to create a Coffee page for http://www.myfoodstory.org and things got messed up. See, for example, if I try to create a page for Bananas by going to the url http://www.myfoodstory.org/wiki.cgi?MyFoodStory/Bananas then it leaves the MyFoodStory context and shows the OurCulture context. Then if I edit the page the URL becomes http://www.ourculture.info/wiki.cgi?action=edit&id=MyFoodStory/Bananas and the page that is created is http://www.ourculture.info/wiki.cgi?MyFoodStory/Bananas which is not in MyFoodStory. If I wanted to create the page in the correct position I would have to write in the URL http://www.ourculture.info/wiki.cgi?action=edit&id=FindBetterWays/MyFoodStory/Bananas which is not at all obvious. Of course, what usually happens is I create the page, realize it's in the wrong location, and then I have to delete it and try various ways to create it. But all of this is I think part of the bigger issue of enforcing context - it should be assumed, once I write MyFoodStory, that every thing after will be in the MyFoodStory context, and the http://www.myfoodstory.org URL should be enforced also. Perhaps this means that roots of subwikis should be unique wiki pages - that would be acceptible. AndriusKulikauskas October 27, 2006 12:12 CET

Helmut, Thank you for your help! I'm not sure how you did it, but it's what I wanted. Thank you! AndriusKulikauskas October 28, 2006 12:46 CET

Beta - Url and PagePath don't match when editing page

Hi Helmut. When I edit the page http://www.findbetterways.info/wiki.cgi?action=edit&id=FindBetterWays/UnityCenter/SideBar then the page path listed above SideBar says: Edit FindBetterWays/FindBetterWays/UnityCenter/ AndriusKulikauskas October 27, 2006 11:55 CET

Beta - Recent Changes for subwiki does not work

Helmut, thank you for your note HowToAdmin/RecentChangesForSubwiki But does it work for a subsubwiki? It doesn't seem to work for the Beta version. So this works: http://www.ourculture.info/wiki.cgi?FindBetterWays/RecentChanges and this works: http://www.findbetterways.info/wiki.cgi?FindBetterWays/RecentChanges but this doesn't work http://www.findbetterways.info/wiki.cgi?FindBetterWays/HelpingOthers/RecentChanges and this doesn't work: http://www.myfoodstory.org/wiki.cgi?MyFoodStory/RecentChanges The latter is important because it's one of the features that Greg Wolff noted that cast doubt on the use of ProWiki for MyFoodStory. I'm trying to make good use of our technology and, of course, it's a challenge! AndriusKulikauskas October 26, 2006 19:17 CET

Andrius, when you ask for a working

this means that you expect to be the roots of two SubWikis. Why do you think so? I don't see Context pages containing SubWiki options. -- HelmutLeitner October 27, 2006 7:52 CET

Helmut, Thank you for the explanation. That's a great help. However, now I'm having trouble doing that in practice. I have set up: http://www.findbetterways.info/wiki.cgi?FindBetterWays/UnityCenter/SideBar which happens to be a different page then http://www.findbetterways.info/wiki.cgi?UnityCenter/SideBar I have also set up http://www.findbetterways.info/wiki.cgi?FindBetterWays/UnityCenter/Context which happens to be the same page as http://www.findbetterways.info/wiki.cgi?UnityCenter/Context The SideBar doesn't show. I don't know why! And if I try to create a link like this: RecentChanges Then it tries to create a new page. AndriusKulikauskas October 27, 2006 11:44 CET

Beta - Main page for subwiki is not shown with its own URL

Helmut, when I am in a page in MyFoodStory such as http://www.myfoodstory.org/wiki.cgi?Solaroof then the link for "My Food Story" in the page hierarchy is http://www.findbetterways.info/wiki.cgi?MyFoodStory but it should be http://www.myfoodstory.org/wiki.cgi?MyFoodStory Question: Is there a page where we could map out the flow of the desired functionality for the Beta? (Like an event diagram?) I would gladly help with that! AndriusKulikauskas October 18, 2006 12:26 CET

Beta - Template not displayed when adding new page

Helmut, when I try to add a new page to http://www.myfoodstory.org by writing the url directly such as http://www.myfoodstory.org/wiki.cgi?Plan the URL shows correctly but the OurCulture template is shown. I suppose this means that the wrong template is shown? It's confusing because I don't know where the page will be created. As a side note, it might be good to sit down and map out an overall plan for the beta so that we are both agreed on exactly how the desired functionality should work. I think that is more important than the particular behavior but I want to be more diligent in reporting it. Perhaps we could make a roadmap and also that might help me understand what resources I might most helpfully contribute. Thank you for all your help! AndriusKulikauskas October 18, 2006 12:04 CET

Beta - taken to other domain when signing in at Preferences

Helmut, when I click the link for Preferences at My Food Story http://www.myfoodstory.org/wiki.cgi?action=editprefs if I am logged out, I am taken to the parent wiki http://www.findbetterways.info It works though, if I am logged in. Also, question - how do I log out? Thank you, AndriusKulikauskas October 18, 2006 11:52 CET

Beta - taken to main page after login

Helmut, when I try to edit a page such as http://w.ms.lt/wiki.cgi?Context where a login is required, then after I login (perhaps after failing first), then I am ultimately taken to the main page http://www.ourculture.info/wiki.cgi instead of the page that I wanted to edit. AndriusKulikauskas October 11, 2006 11:16 CET

Beta - URL should change to indicate context

Hi Helmut, if I want to go to a page that doesn't yet exist at a subwiki, such as http://www.myfoodstory.org/wiki.cgi?Context then it takes me to the Context page for the overall wiki. However, if this page is unique, then I wish it would switch to make that explicit, namely http://www.ourculture.info/wiki.cgi?Context and if there are several context pages, then I wish it would give a multilink. Also, in such situations it's important that there be a way to create the desired page at the desired location. I'm not sure if this is a feature request or bug report, but it is very important! Thank you! I will be bringing you as many such issues as I can so that ProWiki is working perfectly for us and we can organize around it and gain resources for further development. We could make a plan for sharing our existing resources coming in, certainly we'll be setting up a community currency and can at least acknowledge the hours that you're putting in and look for ways to reciprocate.
